A turbulent Thames and torrential rain didn't spoil the fun!

The London Triathlon was only my second tri, and my first Olympic distance event. Full of trepidation, the thought of swimming in the Thames and riding along closed London roads had kept me awake in the week leading up to the event. However, after arriving in the morning to rack my bike and set up shop, all that anxiety lifted and I was filled with excitement. Registering and information about racking positions was readily available and there were plenty of staff on hand to answer any questions. My wave didn??t set off till mid-afternoon, by which time typical British July weather of driving rain and howling winds had set in. This failed to dampen my spirits (excuse the pun) and we lined up to enter the water for the off! Not being the most confident swimmer I hung back and took up my place towards the rear of the pack as we began our lap of Victoria Quay. With the weather deteriorating and the choppy waters getting worse with every stroke, I was incredibly relieved to get to the first transition (I later found out that my swim wave was the last to be allowed out and the rest were cancelled due to poor water conditions). Heading out on the bike into driving rain wasn??t the most pleasant experience but with careful cornering and more attention paid to keeping off the slippery white lines, the closed London roads were a pleasure to ride on. Into T2 and still feeling pretty fresh, I set off on the run with the aim of just enjoying myself and completing the course. My only criticism at this point was that the running section of the event had gotten quite crowded by this point, which meant that you often had to slow to walking pace to negotiate the numerous hairpin turns due to a backlog of runners. Apart from this, the run went off without a hitch and a last minute shout of encouragement from a friend also competing that day spurred me on to complete the event in just under 3 hours. All in all, a well-run, professional event and a medal and t-shirt to show for your efforts!

Warm and Quick

Had a fantastic experience at the London Triathlon. Being used to small local events it was great to experience a larger scale one. The weather was hot which made it feel tougher than usual... or maybe that was because i was unfit!!! Great event and one worth ticking off.

Pretty well organised event but not the most picturesque

This event was pretty well organised considering the size of it! The wave after mine was cancelled due to the choppiness of the water in the docks. The ride was pretty boring but very quick and I managed a 40km despite being asked to dismount for 3 metres at the end of the loop, then to be told i could get back on to go up the ramp into the excel. Took a couple of minutes off my bike time. The run was pretty standard really... all a bit of a blur. I was pleased to finish and get in somewhere warm! Would do again.

london Triathlon always delivers!

This is my third year of participating in this event and as always it was brilliant. The organisation is incredible and despite the fact that so many thousand people take part it never feels like 'too much' The staff and marshalls are friendly and helpful and the cameraderie amongst those competing is lovely.

Brilliant organisation!

My second year at the London Tri. Everything is so well organised and so easy. Couldn't ask for more. It was my first time entering a mixed wave, the swim was more like a boxing match, so I'll stick to women's only waves in future!

London Triathlon, Olympic Distance - First Timer!

I have done lots of long distance running events previously, but this was my first Triathlon, and I was EXCEEDINGLY impressed with the organisation. The whole thing from start to finish was smooth and non daunting for my first one. It was a fantastic day, and I will definitely take part again.

A busy but well organised event

A good event on closed road so you don't have to share the course with the usual road users

Love London

Completed my first Sprint Triathlon after completing the super sprint in 2015. Enjoyed every minute of it, atmosphere was amazing and course was well managed and easy to negotiate. Volunteers and course team were so enthusiastic it was infectious. Joined the NOWCA swimming club at the other end of the dock the previous year and found it really helped settle my nerves on the day having had plenty of time in the water. Great event for first timers and to try new distances loved it!
